Great Daily Face Sunscreen!
I’ve been using this sunscreen as my daily face sunscreen for a couple years now and it’s been my favorite. Though it takes a bit of time to fully rub in so that it doesn’t leave a white cast, it eventually blends in super well and I love how lightweight it feels. I’ve tried several other daily face sunscreens but found that a lot of them ended up bein far too oily for my face, left a serious white cast after several minutes of rubbing, or just straight up broke me out. This one leaves a nice matte feeling and I’ve never had any breakout issues. Considering I’m using this as a “skincare” sunscreen I think the price point is great! Many “skincare” sunscreens are at a minimum this the same price ($15) for a MUCH smaller amount.

I was looking for a mineral sunscreen to avoid the chemicals in other products. I’m pleased with this one. It works well in the sun and smells nice.

Best reef-safe sunblock
I tried around 8 different reef safe sunblocks. Australian Gold and Thrive were the best. The only reef safe sunblocks are those that use either non-micronized Zinc Dioxide, or non-micronized Titanium Dioxide. Any sunblock with other active ingredients may claim to be reef safe, but it isn’t.Why wear reef safe sunblock? All water goes to the ocean eventually, so I try to use this stuff as much as I can. But you especially should wear it if you’re going anywhere near a tropical coral reef. They’re vital ecosystems that are having enough trouble as it is. Hawaii has already banned a few of the most harmful ingredients, though there are still plenty out there that are still technically allowed.Australian Gold isn’t tacky, and spreads reasonably well. What surprised me is that it’s actually functionally better than chemical sunblock. I’m pale and I’ve pretty much never burned while wearing this stuff, even when going in the water. “Water resistant 80 minutes” is actually true with this sunblock, whereas with most chemical sunblocks I’d say that’s a false claim (more like 30 minutes).Because it’s fairly chemically inert, it doesn’t hurt if you get it in your eyes. I can actually spread a bit on my eyelids if I’m expecting a ton of sun exposure (surfing, etc), and on my lips.It does whiten you up a bit, and if you’re hairy, there’s sort of an art to spreading it without leaving white patches visible. If that bothers you, you should try Thrive. While I don’t know if it’s as waterproof as Australian, and it might sting eyes, it’s an oily mineral sunblock that spreads more evenly than anything else I’ve tried. Australian Gold is king when it comes to being functionally the best. Thrive is probably cosmetically the best, and will probably protect you just as well if you aren’t going in the water.One more word of warning, not all Australian Gold sunblocks are reef safe. They do make non reef safe, chemical sunblocks… make sure you buy the ones that say “botanical.”

SPF 30Update:The main purpose of this product was to use it daily on my face. I’ve taken off another star because every time I use it, I end up with a headache from its strong smell. It’s a shame because it’s really a good product.Original:Scent: To me, it’s sort of like pineapple mixed with mandarin orange, or maybe piña colada.The scent feels stronger when you use it on your face.The scent being overpowering is the only reason for not giving it 5 stars. People sensitive to fragrances or asthmatics might want to avoid this.Finish and White Cast: It doesn’t feel moisturizing at all, nor does it feel sticky or peel off after setting, although this may vary if you apply another product beforehand.At first, your skin will look glowy, but it will become completely matte within 15 minutes. It will not give you a white cast, but if too much is applied, your face might look as if a face powder lighter than your skin color was applied.Removal: For those saying it’s hard to remove, this is a mineral sunscreen. The removal method is different from that of chemical sunscreens.It is recommended to double cleanse: use an oil-based cleanser or a cleansing balm first to break down the sunscreen, and then use a gentle foaming cleanser to remove any remaining residue.(It has been said that even plain oil can be used to break down mineral sunscreens, such as coconut oil, olive oil, sweet almond oil, jojoba oil, baby oil, or mineral oil. Cleansing balms, like Pond’s Cold Cream, can also be effective.)

Textura super rica, deja una muy muy ligera capa blanca por ser mineral. Lo uso en cara y cuerpo sobre todo cuando voy a nadar para asegurarme que me dura mientras estoy en el agua. De diario lo uso en brazos y manos. En la cara, ya que soy de piel grasa, se siente super rico. Si no dejara esa ligerísima cápita blanca, lo usaría diario en mi cara, así que solo para nadar en cara. No es grasoso, siento una textura incluso como aterciopelada. Me encanta. Lo volveré a comprar.

I really love this product. Although it leaves a temporary white overcast on the skin after application; it doesn’t feel tacky, sticky or greasy on skin. It leaves my skin feeling matte and smooth. It also doesn’t come off easily when swimming.
